New Chimney construction, Relining, Repair and Twin wall Chimney Installation.

Over time most chimneys and flues begin to deteriorate due to heating/cooling cycles and general deterioration from the UK weather, followed by soot deposits from the appliance when burning. The soot deposits react with the moisture inside the chimney which then become acidic. Eventually the acid eats away and erodes the mortar and brickwork causing gaps, cracks and instability within the flue.

This can become very dangerous as leaks of poisonous gasses (Carbon monoxide) could occur into bedrooms or loft spaces.

There are a few ways to reline/rebuild a chimney, below are some possible ways to achieve this with a brief description on each. Hopefully this will help you decided what method is best for you!

Stainless Flexible Metal Liners.

One of the most common methods of relining an existing chimney is to use a twin skinned flexible stainless steel liner. This type of liner is suitable for gas, oil wood and multifuel applications. Flexible liners should only be used to reline existing masonry chimneys

This is made up of a continuous length that is fed down from the top of the chimney to the appropriate adapter, gather or connecting flue pipe for your appliance. The smooth inner skin of the liner enables flue gasses to be evacuated quickly and efficiently providing maximum safety throughout.

There are generally two grades of flexible liners available - 316 grade and 904 grade, Depending on what and how your appliance burns will help inform what grade of liner to utilise.

316 Grade is suitable for woodburning appliances intended for intermittent use and for all gas and oil appliances, This generally has a 20 year warranty although with the correct maintenance can last much longer

904 Grade is suitable for all appliances and can be burnt more continuously This liner is designed for heavier use especially on appliances that are the primary heating source (Boiler Stove/Cooker) that will be in constant use. This generally has a 30 year warranty although this can also last much longer with the correct maintenance

Pumice Liners.

At Greenstove Solutions we have tried and tested many different products and found pumice liners to be the best possible system for the construction of new chimneys

Derived from Volcanoes in Iceland the natural pumice components are capable of easily withstanding over 1500 degrees! And therefore designed to last forever, subject to regular maintenance.

The liners are available in a wide range of diameters from 150mm right up to 1000mm internally, providing a solution for every project

Its incomparable insulating properties allow the flue gases to reach optimum temperatures quickly resulting in appliances burning at maximum efficiency levels shortly after being lit. This also means that the heat is constantly held within the liners even when the stove is cooling, preventing condensation and can alleviate the build up of soot in the chimney.

Pumice liners are light weight, easy to use, handle and cut which keeps the cost of installation to a minimum making it an affordable efficient product. The system is suitable for solid fuel, wood and oil appliances.

Twin Wall Chimney Systems.

Factory made twin wall insulated chimneys are particularly useful in properties built without a masonry chimney, or where one wishes to install an appliance when there is no readily available access to an existing masonry chimney.
They also enable the installation of freestanding appliances.

A twin wall insulated system chimney consists of a stainless steel outer 'skin' with either a stainless steel or ceramic inner  with the void between them filled with high performance insulation.

A twin wall system chimney should usually give a long service life with many systems having warranties of up to 25 years subject to regular maintenance

We can design and install a twin wall insulated system chimney into virtually any property.

Solid Fuel Central Heating and Link-Up Systems

Solid fuel central heating systems have been in existence for many years, but in 2010 Uk building regulations were changed in order to improve the efficiency and safety of these heating systems.

We are qualified under HETAS HTU08 to be able to both appraise existing systems and bring them up to the current requirements but also to carry out maintenance to compliant systems as well as install complete new systems.

We particularly specialise in electronically controlled Link up systems which allow users a much greater level of flexibility than a stand alone solid fuel boiler.

These systems grant the opportunity to connect different types of heat producing energy sources into the same system.

With the careful use of time switches, thermostatic controls and motorised valves it is possible to link a solid fuel boiler with an automatic boiler (such as a gas or oil boiler).

These controls when set to link up mode regulate the balance of energy between the solid fuel boiler and the automatic boiler ensuring that when the solid fuel boiler is operational all of the available energy is efficiently distributed to the hot water and heating system, only calling on the automatic boiler to top up when needed.

Should the solid fuel boiler cool down, the system closes down the circuit to prevent energy being wasted and the automatic boiler takes over full heating duties

They also allow operation in exclusively solid fuel or automatic mode and permit the installation of an unvented hot water cylinder(G3) or thermal store for ultimate convenience.

We can also install models capable of converting traditionally gravity based solid fuel systems to high efficiency fully pumped systems and even linking two solid fuel appliances in the same system, all while being fully compliant with building regulations part L (energy efficiency)

Oil Cooker/Boiler Supply, Installation and Maintenance

We are registered with OFTEC and qualified in the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of ALL types of oil boilers, cookers, oil tanks and oil feed pipes.

We have even installed oil cookers into Narrowboats!

We are able to supply and fully install oil boilers and cookers from such reputable names as:

GRANT - FIREBIRD - WARMFLOW - WORCESTER BOSCH - THORNHILL RANGE COOKERS - HERITAGE RANGE COOKERS

As with all heating appliances regular servicing is essential to ensure the reliability of your heating system.

We offer annual servicing and breakdown repairs for all types of pressure jet oil fired boilers and cookers, alongside 6 monthly servicing and breakdown repairs for Vaporising cookers such as AGA Rayburn and Stanley pot burners.

As above, we hate waste and wherever possible we aim to keep your appliance working for as long as possible but also as cleanly and efficiently as possible.

one such example of this is AGA Rayburn cookers, We are able to upgrade the burners within some old AGA Rayburn cookers to the latest high efficiency burners as found in new cookers, improving efficiency, reducing emissions and negating the cost and emotional distress of removing an old family friend from your kitchen.

Chimney Sweeping and Solid Fuel Appliance Servicing

Regular sweeping and maintenance is essential for all Woodburning/Multifuel stoves, Boiler stoves and solid fuel heating appliances to prevent blockages and remove soot from your chimney.
Annual servicing prevents the risk of chimney fires and provides safe extraction of the gases that are released during the combustion process, also prolonging the life of your liner and increasing the efficiency of your appliance which will save money and help the environment.

If you are looking for a clean, friendly chimney sweep in Canterbury and the surrounding areas, look no further.
We offer a fully insured, highly trained professional service that will leave you with great confidence and satisfaction on completion.

What we offer:

• CHIMNEY SWEEPING:- Manual traditional techniques as well as a modern power sweep are available for all of the following.

• Open Fires
• Woodburning and Multifuel Stoves
• AGA & Rayburn Cookers
• Oil Boilers
• Inglenook Fireplaces
• Biomass boilers

• CHIMNEY PRESSURE CHECKS:- checking the integrity of a chimney is important to ensure flue gasses are being evacuated safely with no leaks to any other parts of the building.

•CCTV Inspection:- Chimney CCTV Inspections are a great way to diagnose and identify certain problems that could arise and cause concern inside the chimney. Using the latest technology our high quality camera can view and record footage to identify any problems.
(Full reports can be supplied if required)

•BIRD NESTS & PEST REMOVAL:- Chimneys are the perfect place for birds and pests to use as their habitual home due to the shelter and warmth they provide. This can cause major problems like blockages, chimney fires and infestation. Clearing flues of nests is essential for the safe use of burning appliances but even in chimneys not destined for further use we can clean and safely cap the chimney (still allowing necessary ventilation) to prevent further animal damage/nuisance.
